Confessions of a Negligent Blogger

Hi, my name is Whitney. (Hi Whitney)I have a problem. My problem is that I have become a negligent blogger. For some reason, it seems like every time that I have gone to post about Christmas or anything else, I just can't do it. So here I am, writing this post, trying to get the blogging started. With any luck, I may actually blog about Christmas and change the music and backdrop on my blog in the next week. We'll see what happens.

The past two months have been interesting. They have been full of many ups and downs. I don't want this to be full of complaints so I will leave it at that. My life right now is consisting of figuring out what I want to be when I get older. It is interesting to me that, in some ways, all the paths I have tried to avoid growing up are the ones that I am starting to head towards. Too bad it took me so long to figure out.

Yesterday I had a wake up call, or better yet, a happy test and passed it! That made me happy. Somethings happened yesterday that could have brought me down to some major lows, but instead, I was honestly and truly happy for the good news that some close friends received. That is a big step for me. If it would have happened a month ago, I would probably still be in my room or inside myself, having a pity party.
This week has shown me that I can make good things happen. Not only did I accomplish the daily tasks but I was able to spend some time with my good friend Jenny, volunteer and a local child care center, help a friend shop for a wedding dress, and will get to help clean the temple tomorrow morning.

What am I left with? A to-do list of desires. 1. Figure out what kind of job I want. 2. Find a job in said area. 3. Find joy in the journey. 4. Write in my journal daily. 5. Focus more on others and not complain so much.

Maybe I should add to that list keeping up-to-date on my blog and not being so negligent.

A Weekend Away

Around the second weekend of December some friends and I took a road trip to Vernal, Utah. That seems so exciting, I'm sure. However, I went along because it was a place that I had never been before and so I went. We arrived in Vernal late Thursday night, or I should say, early Friday morning. We stayed at a friend's sister's house.

Nothing to exciting happened during the trip so I will just list some of the things.
~Slept 20 minutes total the first night and three the next night
~Waffles for Breakfast
~Watched some good movies
~Played Wii Fit
~Had push-up and sit-up contest with my friend's nephew (I won the push-up one)
~Saw deer (10-20 at least) in the backyard
~We almost got hit by a deer.
~Ward Christmas Breakfast
~Beautiful scenery

Here are a few pictures from the ride home.

A Gift For You!

This year it has been kind of difficult for me to get into the holiday spirit. My roommate was in charge of our Ward Christmas Program in sacrament meeting. This was a huge blessing to me, even though it caused her some stress. For the week leading up to the program, there were people at our place practicing. It helped to bring the spirit a little stronger into the house and also the season. The program turned out fabulous!

One of the quotes in the program really hit me hard the first time I read it and it appears to have had the same impact on many. I want to share that with you all as a Christmas Gift via the Internet.

"Christmas is more than trees and twinkling lights, more than toys and gifts and baubles of a hundred varieties. It is love. It is the love of the Son of God for all mankind. It reaches out beyond our power to comprehend. It is magnificent and beautiful.

It is peace. It is the peace which comforts, which sustains, which blesses all who accept it. It is faith. It is faith in God and His eternal Son. It is faith in His wondorous ways and message. It is faith in Him as our Redeemer and our Lord.

We testify of His living reality. We testify of the divinity of His nature. In our times of grateful meditation, we acknowlede His priceless gift to us and pledge our love and faith. This is what Christmas is really about.

For each of you may this be a merry Christmas. but more importantly, I wish for each of you a time, perhaps only a hour, spent in silent meditation and quiet reflection on the wonder and majesty of this, the Son of God. Our joy at this season is because He came into the world. The peace that comes from Him, His infinite love which each of us may feel, and an overwhelming sense of gratitude for that which He freely gave us at so great a cost to Himself - these are the true essence of Christmas."
~President Gordon B Hinckley - "A Glorious Season" - The New Era - Dec. 2007

Merry Christmas to You All! May your Christmas be full of rememberance, love and joy. Thank you for being who you are!

An Enlightening Convo

Tonight for Home Evening my roommate volunteered me to do the lesson for another group. I was actually excited to go with that group because it is always wonderful to spend time with our Bishopric. They are great guys. After the lesson and game, we had refreshments. When I was getting ready to leave, this bishopric member started to talk to me about a few things.

Somehow, we got on the topic of guys and he asked the million-dollar question. What is that you may ask. It is Do guys date anymore? This one question started a pretty long conversation (at least 40 minutes) about guys. We talked about there are some amazing girls in this area and how the guys do not seem to notice. He then proceeded to call the guys numbskulls because they don't seem to get what great girls are around them weekly. Through this conversation we talked about a few things like:

~ How some guys are intimated by girls because they are "too perfect".
~ How guys seem to think that girls have certain "expectation" of them and so they don't ask them out.
~ Why people don't date anymore.
~ How dates do not need to be expensive or elaborate.
~ Dates can be fun things that allow you to get to know the other.
~ Why it seems like people seem to prefer to "hang out" rather than date.
~ How guys expect to get married without dating
~ What not dating does to the girls.
~ How women tend to beat themselves up over everything. For example, not being good enough for guys, what to do with the rest of their lives etc.

This was really an interesting conversation. He admitted that he married later than most people in his age group, but that people his age would go out and date and have fun. He was surprised with how clueless the guys seem to be about how important dating is in the grand scheme of things. It was really enlightening to know that he agrees with many of the thoughts and ideas that us single ladies have these days.

*I wrote about this conversation because I thought it was interesting and learned a lot. The priesthood leader was saying these things out of care and concern for those over whom he has stewardship over. Please take it in the spirit of love.

So.......

For you faithful followers of this blog here is an update on the post below. Though much of what is said below is so True, there has been a slight --- well make that a major --- change in the situation.

Without too much detail the job mentioned below did not work out.

I found this out Wednesday morning and am so grateful that it happened on a day after the huge snow storm when I could come home and spend time with my family and try not to focus on it too much. My family has been amazing over the holiday, even when I may not have been the most festive person. Thank you all!!!!

So, what does this mean? It means it is time to continue the job hunt relying on faith, prayer, and the spirit.

I Am Amazed!

To be quite honest, I hesitate to share this post. My fear is that it will be taken the wrong way. I do not do this to be boastful or toot my own horn. Rather, I do this to share how amazing our Heavenly Father truly is and how much he loves us.

A little while back an impression came to quit my job then. I tried to rationalize but it was clear it needed to happen. Though I was confused of why to quit when I had nothing else, a calm feeling assured me that I would be taken care and would not have to go without.

Through lots of study, prayer and temple attendance, I gave my three weeks notice. During those three weeks, I had a job interview and felt really good about the possibility. When I heard back from them, I had learned that I was their second choice. Though I was unsure of what was going to happen, I still felt that what was happening was right.

I was so grateful to have a job where I was able to support myself. Quitting was super-hard. The first week of unemployment was interesting. I went to some institute classes with some friends, helped my good friend Jenny and spent some time with her (love ya and thanks. It helped me more than you know), did a lot of job hunting, went to the temple and ran some errands. By the end of the week, I was discouraged, but I figured if I kept busy, then I would be taken care of.

The next week, I went home to Pocatello. I had an appointment and felt like job searching would be easier there with the computer and everything there. Plus having parents there to help and guide me would be great. On Monday, after an appointment and turning in a resume, I left the room for about ten minutes. When I got back, my phone was ringing. It was the place I had just applied. He said he had been swimming through a sea of resumes but when he saw mine, he just had to call. We did an interview then and there. He asked me to come in the next day for another interview, which I did. This meant traveling back here. After the interview and observation time, I headed back to Poky. My parents and I headed to the temple that afternoon. On our way, I got the official phone call welcoming me to the team there.

I know that we are divinely guided. This new job is such a good fit for me and I am so blessed to have it. Heavenly Father knows us and everything that will happen. We will receive so many blessings after the trial of our faith. We are asked to look to him in all thing without doubt or fear. We need to trust him that all thing will work together for our good. Although I may not understand completely why this had to happen the way it did, I know it was the Lord's will and he will not lead us astray. It is truly amazing how much he loves and cares for us.

Hop Hop Hop

This fly girl had a pretty crazy Halloween. Ha Ha. She was hop, hopping like a grasshopper. (For those keeping track that is two bug references. The funny part was that it lasted all weekend long. The hard part was trying to make it everywhere that I was invited. Here is the story of that crazy weekend.

Friday evening I had three parties to attend. I ended up only making it to one and it was good. We made sugar cookies and watched a movie. The company was good, but the best part was the cookies.

HOP!

Saturday morning, some friends and I went to Salt Lake to observe the gardens (which were non-existent because they had been dug up in preparation for winter). Then we went to the temple. What a great way to spend Halloween, helping the spirits. After the temple, we walked over to the Gateway (and chased some seagulls while doing so) and ate lunch. We had a window table and we could see the little kids walking by in their cute costumes. Then we headed home.

HOP!

That evening, I went a party with my roommate and some of her friends. We ate food and talked.

HOP!

Then, I went to another friend's house for a party she was having. They played games and have soup in bread bowls. Yummy!

HOP!

Next, some friends and I went to another party with a lot of people and a picture booth. I was not dressed up so I was not in the pictures, but it was interesting.

HOP!

We then went to a friend's house to "trick-or-treat" and ended up spending some time there reading jokes from Laffy Taffy wrappers.

HOP!

I wanted to go home, but there was one more stop. We went to another party with some amazing food. I really like the cake balls that were dipped in white chocolate. There were a lot of people.

HOP!

Lastly, I spent some time talking a little with a friend before going home and falling fast asleep for the rest of the night.

Thank goodness Sunday was pretty calm and there was church and the meetings with that. I had a friend over for dinner and took it pretty easy that night. It was the perfect ending to a crazy weekend, because this grasshopper was tired.
